Last Saturday, Alex and I dropped by the #GAB fair at the Glorietta 2 Activity Center. Since we came after lunchtime, we missed the 2 sponsored workshops held that day, but that's ok.
We've checked out some booths. Our favorite booth was the one located after this DIY screenprint tee booth by Artwork. Too bad I felt too shy (and partly intimidated) to snap some shots of their booth because I'm not too sure if they allow it. Some artists are strict about it for fear their artwork might get stolen and reprinted, which is perfectly understandable considering the quality of their artworks-- the bomb. Both Alex and I agree that they should be joining GameCons and ComiCons too. They were also selling tradable magic cards which they designed based on Filipino-ized Marvel/DC superheroes (I initially thought they were tarot cards haha).
Being cat lovers, we'd obviously gravitate towards this booth. Since comics and cats seem to go well together, there will be a Filipino Komiks Art Market on October 14-15, 2017 from 11 A.M. to 7 P.M. at Elements, Centris.
For all you K-pop fans, there's also a booth dedicated to K-pop art, and an art fair dedicated to them called The Hallyu Art Fair, happening on November 5, 2017 from 11 A.M. to 7 P.M. at Whitespace, Manila.
Now on to my main purpose of dropping by this event: art books! Most of them have 20% discount on. I feel like I should focus on color theory now though instead of drawing because I've spent 80% of my time allotted to artistic endeavors on the latter already.
But I couldn't help being curious about these books. I'm such a nerd :P
.I still have other books and e-books I've yet to open at home. But this is one is my current favorite. The author interviewed 23 artists about their styles and what inspired them to paint. He also added his own insights in the mix, and the result is this amazing book. I highly recommend it to those who are still in the experimentation stage and haven't really "found" their own style yet (like me).
I'd love to add more reference books and online courses I use in my art studies at the moment, but that's gonna be on another post! There's a very helpful step-by-step guide about how to discover your own style which I want to do real soon and share as well. We'll see.
